The Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office and the State Bureau of Investigations have uncovered and documented another case of forest destruction at the "Yasinyansky Forest Hunting Economy" branch of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine." This time, due to the improper performance of official duties by the head of the Svidovets Forestry of this branch, the state has suffered damages exceeding 4.5 million hryvnias.
According to the investigation, the forestry official failed to ensure proper control and allowed the illegal felling of 84 trees within the protected natural reserve of the Svidovets Forestry. The damage caused has been confirmed by the conclusion of a judicial examination.
The actions of the suspect have been classified as official negligence that caused severe consequences (part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure for him is being resolved.
Measures to uncover illegal activities were carried out by environmental prosecutors of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office in cooperation with the Strategic Investigations Department in the Transcarpathian Region of the National Police, the Lviv Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations, and with the assistance of the Internal Security Department of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine."
We remind you of the recent uncovering of a large-scale logging scheme in the Ukrainian Carpathians. A suspicion has been reported against an official of the "Yasinyansky Forest Hunting Economy" branch of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine," whose official activities led to the illegal felling of nearly 3,400 trees of various species in the territory of the Lazeshyn Forestry, amounting to almost 55.8 million hryvnias.
Also, in October 2024, an organized group was uncovered that was engaged in mass illegal logging in one of the areas within the Yasinyanska community of the Rakhiv district. The timber was delivered to sawmills and prepared for sale across Ukraine. The indictment is currently under judicial review.
