The prosecutor's office obliged the Kyiv City Council to take actions to grant the "Christer Hill" the status of the object of the nature reserve fund

At the request of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, the Kyiv District Administrative Court has obliged the Kyiv City Council to take action to resolve the issue of granting "Krysterova Hill" the status of a natural reserve object.

The prosecutor noted in the lawsuit that the Kyiv City Council of People's Deputies adopted a decision in 1994 "On the creation, reservation, and preservation of territories and objects of the natural reserve fund in Kyiv," which approved the List of valuable natural territories and objects reserved for reservation.

One of these objects is "Krysterova Hill" in the Podil district of the capital. This former water-botanical area covers 17.5 hectares and belonged to the Kryster brothers, whose father founded a well-known gardening firm and agricultural school in Kyiv in the second half of the 19th century.

This natural object is characterized by a valuable landscape and picturesque water area. Granting it the status of a natural reserve will contribute to the preservation and protection of rare species of animals and plants within the metropolis, support the balance of ecosystems and the ecological health of people, and enhance the recreational and tourist attractiveness of Kyiv. This is confirmed by the conclusions of scientists from the M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany and the I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

At the same time, the Kyiv City Council, contrary to the requirements of current legislation, has not taken any action for nearly 30 years to classify the reserved territory "Krysterova Hill" as part of the natural reserve fund.

The court agreed with the prosecutor's position and obliged the Kyiv City Council to take action to resolve the issue of granting the reserved "Krysterova Hill" the status of a natural reserve object.

It should be noted that the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office is taking measures to grant the status of a natural reserve fund to other objects listed in the decision of the Kyiv City Council of People's Deputies from 1994, which have not yet been granted the status of a natural reserve object.

In particular, a case is currently under consideration in court regarding the prosecutor's lawsuit against the Kyiv City Council to take measures to grant the status of a natural reserve fund to Dolobetsky Island, which covers an area of 149.5 hectares.
