The prosecutor's office brought to court the case against seven employees of the Kharkiv pre -trial detention center who left the prisoner after beating

Yes, according to the investigation, in April 2025, the employees of the pre-trial detention center decided to "teach a lesson" to a recently delivered suspect. Contrary to the requirements of the law, he was placed in a cell with another convicted person.

As a result of the conflict, the latter brutally beat the man. The victim sustained serious bodily injuries.

Despite the obvious signs of a critical condition, the employees of the state institution did not call for medical assistance and did not provide him with help.

To "legalize" their illegal actions, they prepared a report about the alleged necessity of transferring the prisoner to a cell in another regime building to avoid a conflict situation.

The victim, who was already barely standing, was carried by the accused to another cell. The man constantly complained of pain and asked for help, but the staff ignored his condition. The prisoner was left lying on the floor near the toilet in the cell, and a few hours later he died.

Among the accused are: the acting head of the institution, two junior inspectors, the senior officer of the building, the duty assistant to the head of the institution, and two operational officers. Their positions are indicated at the time of the crime. Most of them have been dismissed by now. Depending on their role, they will be prosecuted for:

— exceeding authority or official powers by a law enforcement officer, resulting in serious consequences (part 3 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);

— leaving a person in danger, resulting in death (part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);

— official negligence, resulting in the death of a person (part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The procedural leadership is carried out by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office. The pre-trial investigation is conducted by the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Poltava.

For reference: regarding the convicted person who beat the victim, the pre-trial investigation has been completed. He is charged with causing serious bodily harm that resulted in the victim's death (part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
