A resident of the Mohyliv-Podilskyi district of Vinnytsia region has been notified of suspicion of illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine (part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Law enforcement officers established that the man assisted three conscripts in their illegal escape from the country. He was well aware of the procedures and methods for securing the state border, as he lived in a border area.
In a phone conversation, the suspect arranged a meeting with "clients" of conscription age in Vinnytsia. From there, he transported them in his car to an uninhabited premises near the border with the Republic of Moldova. There, he conducted a detailed briefing on crossing the border via the Dniester River in an inflatable boat.
He estimated the cost of the "service" at 23,000 US dollars for three people.
The suspect was unable to illegally transport the men – he was detained by law enforcement officers.
At the request of the prosecutor's office, he has been taken into custody with the right to bail.
Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Mohyliv-Podilskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Vinnytsia region, the pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Mohyliv-Podilskyi District Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine in Vinnytsia region, with operational support from the 24th Border Detachment named after Vyacheslav Semenov.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
