Prosecutors of the Khadzhybei District Prosecutor's Office have sent to court the case of the murder of a 7-year-old girl in Odesa.

The accused is charged with the rape and murder of a child, as well as the acquisition and storage of drugs (paragraphs 2, 10 of part 2 of Article 115, part 4 of Article 152, part 1 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Recall that in June of this year, law enforcement agencies detained a 31-year-old native of Odesa, involved in the brutal murder of the child.

According to the investigation, the man consumed cannabis that day. He noticed a neighbor girl who was riding a scooter. The children in the yard knew this man, as he had communicated with them several times and talked about the cats he kept at home. Under this pretext, he invited the trusting child to his home.

There, he took advantage of her helplessness: he raped and strangled the little girl. Subsequently, he tried to conceal the crime by transporting the body and hiding it in a basement.

Thanks to the operational and investigative measures taken, the man was detained.

An examination confirmed the presence of drugs in his blood.

At the request of the prosecutor's office, the accused is currently in custody without the right to bail.

By law, the accused of the rape and murder of a child faces the maximum penalty - life imprisonment.   

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by the VPU No. 1 of the Odesa Region Prosecutor's Office No. 1. 

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
