The Economic Court of Rivne Region granted the prosecutor's claim in the interests of the state represented by the Zarichne community for compensation for environmental damage in the amount of over 6.78 million UAH. The damages arose due to inadequate protection and preservation of the forest from illegal logging on the lands of the forest fund under their jurisdiction.

Prosecutors established that during the inspection of the forest plantations of the Ostriv Forestry, conducted with the participation of employees from the "Vysotske Forestry" branch and the State Environmental Inspection of the Polissya region, illegal logging of trees of various species was discovered.

The Environmental Inspection determined that the illegal logging in the Ostriv Forestry caused environmental damage amounting to nearly 6.8 million UAH, as this area is part of the Nobel National Nature Park and is protected as an object of the national nature reserve fund of state significance.

At the same time, the Forest Code of Ukraine obliges state forestry enterprises and other organizations with forest divisions to protect forests, including from illegal logging, and to compensate for damages caused by violations of forestry legislation.

This case once again confirms the importance of the systematic work of the prosecutor's offices in identifying violations in the field of environmental protection and defending the interests of territorial communities.
