Prosecutors of Chernihiv region have achieved 8 years in prison for a deadly road accident in which two children were killed

Under the public prosecution of juvenile prosecutors from the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the court found a resident of Kyiv guilty of violating traffic safety rules, which led to the deaths of several individuals (Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

By the verdict of the Bobrovytsia District Court, he was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment with an additional penalty – deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 3 years. The court also granted the civil claims of the parents of the deceased children and ordered the guilty party to pay nearly 8 million UAH in moral damages.

In court, prosecutors proved that in October 2024, the driver of the "Opel Vectra," traveling at a significantly excessive speed from the city of Pryluky to the center of the village of Nova Basyan in the Nizhyn district, lost control while rounding a curve and drove onto the roadside. There, two minor girls aged 12 and 14 were walking in the opposite direction. As a result of the collision, they died on the spot from their injuries.

Until the verdict takes legal effect, the convicted individual will remain in custody.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the Chernihiv region.
