Dnipro prosecutors reported suspicion to the director of a company who illegally mined and sold sand with losses of UAH 290 million

Prosecutors have informed the head of the company of suspicion regarding the illegal extraction of minerals on a large scale (Part 2 of Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the organizer of the illegal activity is the owner and director of a company that specializes in the trade of construction materials and freight transportation. The suspect inherited a land plot of 10 hectares in the Petrykivka community and was conducting work to arrange a pond. From 2021 to 2023, he established sand extraction there without any permits.

The illegally extracted minerals were sold to business entities with the involvement of controlled enterprises. It has been documented that the suspect extracted over 13,000 cubic meters of sand. The damage to the environment amounts to 290 million UAH.

Currently, the suspect has been served with a motion for the selection of a preventive measure. The prosecutor has also submitted a motion to the court regarding the rest of the land plot.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is being conducted by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the Dnipropetrovsk region with operational support from the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
