Sumy region prosecutors sent an indictment in court on a woman who tried to sell a baby for $ 30,000

Juvenile prosecutors of the Bilopillia department of the Sumy regional prosecutor's office approved and sent to court an indictment against a 35-year-old resident of Sumy region, who attempted to sell her newborn child (part 2 of article 15, part 3 of article 149).

At the beginning of 2025, the woman, still in the late stages of pregnancy, began looking for buyers for her future child for 30,000 US dollars. After the girl was born on May 1, 2025, the woman arranged to hand over the infant to a resident of the Bilopillia community, offering to arrange a fictitious paternity. Initially, she received a deposit of 1,000 US dollars, but during the transfer of the main part of the funds, she was detained.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Sumy district police department in cooperation with employees of the criminal investigation department, migration police of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Sumy region, and operatives of the 5th border detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Note: according to article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
