The resonant murder of a public activist in Odessa. Prosecutors have directed an indictment in court

Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Defense Sector of the Southern Region, the investigation has been completed and an indictment has been sent to court regarding a reserve serviceman of one of the military units for the intentional murder for mercenary motives by order, illegal handling of weapons and ammunition, as well as for failing to appear for duty in a timely manner without valid reasons for more than three days, committed under martial law (subparagraphs 6, 11 of part 2 of Article 115, part 1 of Article 263, part 5 of Article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The pre-trial investigation established that on March 14, 2025, at approximately 10:30 AM in the center of Odesa, the accused fired several shots at a well-known public activist. The victim died on the spot from the injuries sustained. On the same day, law enforcement officers detained the accused "in hot pursuit."

The investigation also established that the murder was commissioned by unidentified individuals who presented themselves to the accused as law enforcement officers, but were not and acted in the interests of the Russian Federation.

To prepare for the crime, the accused unlawfully left his place of service in February 2025. He obtained a Makarov pistol, ammunition, and two RGD-5 hand grenades, which he illegally stored and carried with him.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region, with operational support from the UKR and USR of the National Police of Ukraine.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
