Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office, together with detectives from the Bureau of Economic Security, have completed the pre-trial investigation in a criminal proceeding regarding the embezzlement of over 3.3 million hryvnias allocated for the capital repair of the runway of the Municipal Enterprise "Chernivtsi International Airport".

An indictment has been sent to court against the former director of the Department of Housing and Communal Services of the Chernivtsi City Council and the former head of the technical supervision department. They are accused of committing a crime under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the former officials of the city council conspired with the contractor to "misappropriate" budget funds for work that was not fully completed.

The contractor submitted false information about the completed work, the head of technical supervision confirmed the fake acts, and the head of the Department signed them.

As a result, the contractor received money for work that was only partially completed, causing losses to the community budget of over 3.3 million hryvnias.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in the Chernivtsi region with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in the Chernivtsi region.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
