"Sartier", "Van Cleef" and "Hermes": on "rollbacks" for duty

According to the investigation, a state inspector from the department for combating the illegal movement of drugs and weapons of the Lviv customs office demanded and received 15,000 US dollars from a resident of Lviv region.

For this amount, the official ensured the unhindered importation of jewelry from well-known brands from the Republic of Poland without paying customs duties. In addition, according to preliminary information, he also instructed on how to "hide" this goods from customs control when importing into Ukraine.

In particular, the items included "Cartier," "Van Cleef," and "Hermes" products.

The amount of the unlawful benefit was 4% of the actual value of the goods being transported.

The inspector was detained after receiving the last part of the "kickback" – 10,000 US dollars.

During the searches, among other things, all the unlawful benefits received before the detention and part of the previous amount – 1,600 US dollars – were seized.

Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the inspector was informed of the suspicion of receiving unlawful benefits by a public official, combined with extortion of unlawful benefits (part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Currently, the suspect has been suspended from his position. He has been chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention with the right to bail.

Investigative actions are ongoing, and all individuals involved in the illegal activities are being identified.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region, with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region. The crime was uncovered jointly with the internal control department of the Lviv customs office.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
