Fatal road accident in Chernihiv region with the participation of police officers: a child died. An investigation has been launched

Under the procedural guidance of the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated in a criminal proceeding regarding the violation of traffic safety rules that resulted in the death of the victim (part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, on December 10, around 11:44 in the city of Pryluky, Chernihiv region, a patrol police unit from the Pryluky Police Department, responding to a call about a traffic accident, ran over a 36-year-old woman with a child who were crossing the roadway at a regulated pedestrian crossing on V'yacheslav Chornovil Street.
As a result of the injuries sustained, the 6-year-old girl died at the scene. The child's mother was taken to the city hospital with bodily injuries.
Currently, initial investigative actions are being conducted within the framework of the criminal proceedings.
At present, the police officer has been detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators from the Fifth Investigative Department (located in the city of Chernihiv) of the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigation, based in Kyiv.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
