The murder of a 21-year-old Ukrainian in Vienna: both suspects were arrested

Under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General, two citizens of Ukraine have been notified of suspicion of intentional murder committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy for mercenary motives (p. 6, p.12 part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

This concerns the high-profile murder of a 21-year-old citizen of Ukraine, which occurred in November 2025 in the capital of Austria and caused significant public and media resonance both in Ukraine and abroad.

According to the investigation, on November 25, 2025, in Vienna, the suspects, acting in conspiracy, arranged a meeting with the victim under a fabricated pretext, with whom one of them was personally acquainted. The meeting took place on the premises of one of the hotels in the city.

Subsequently, in an underground parking lot, the man was attacked. After that, he was forced to transfer funds from a cryptocurrency wallet amounting to about 50 thousand euros. The victim was then taken to another area of the city, where his body was later found with signs of violent death.

The body of the deceased was discovered on the night of November 26, 2025, in a burned car. After relatives reported the man's disappearance, Austrian law enforcement agencies immediately launched an investigation, which took on an international character from the very first days.

The case required swift coordination among law enforcement agencies of several states. As a result of the joint efforts of law enforcement agencies of Ukraine and Austria, as well as with the active assistance of Europol, the suspects were promptly identified and detained on the territory of Ukraine.

Taking into account the norms of international law and the principle of effective criminal prosecution, the criminal proceedings against the suspects are being conducted in Ukraine.

Today, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention for both suspects.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. It is being conducted by investigators of the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
