The Special Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region reported suspicion of a citizen who staged a scheme of illegal earnings for the purchase of goods for the Armed Forces
30.06.2025
According to the investigation, in May 2025, during the procurement of tactical medical supplies for the needs of a military unit funded by donors, the suspect proposed to a serviceman to implement a criminal scheme for illegal enrichment.
Specifically, the suspect, a former sales representative, provided the military unit with medical goods worth 80,000 UAH, purchased with funds from one of the donors. At the same time, he suggested to the serviceman, who he believed was responsible for asset accounting, to temporarily not register this aid on the balance sheet and to wait for a similar amount from another donor.
Subsequently, after the next amount of charitable aid was received, the man embezzled these funds and transferred 56,000 UAH to the serviceman as an unlawful benefit. In addition, he provided a fictitious invoice that allegedly confirmed the transfer of goods. In reality, no new purchases were made.
During the transfer of funds, law enforcement officers detained the suspect in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Defense Sector of the Southern Region, the citizen was notified of suspicion for providing an unlawful benefit to a public official (Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was chosen as a preventive measure in the form of detention with an alternative of bail.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the 1st Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Region, with operational support from the Southern Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
