According to the investigation materials, a 43-year-old resident of Berehivshchyna offered over 320 thousand hryvnias to the head of the group of border control inspectors of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine to "not notice" two conscripts who were trying to escape to Hungary through the "Dyakove" checkpoint.
The border guard immediately reported the attempted bribery to his direct superiors and assisted in documenting all further actions of the perpetrator. Thanks to his position, it was possible to document the crime and expose the organizer of the illegal scheme.
The suspect was detained right during the transfer of the advance payment; he was supposed to give the remaining part of the money only after his "clients" crossed the border.
During a search of the suspect's vehicle, another 8,400 euros and 2,000 dollars in cash were found, the origin of which is being investigated.
The organizer of the scheme has been notified of suspicion by prosecutors of the Transcarpathian Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Western region for providing unlawful benefits to a public official and organizing the illegal transportation of persons across the state border. Administrative protocols have been drawn up for both conscripts he attempted to transport.
The prosecution has applied to the court for a preventive measure for the suspect.
