The commander of the special forces "Akhmat" who robbed a family of entrepreneurs in the Kherson region during the occupation will be tried
05.11.2025
Prosecutors of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office have sent an indictment to the court regarding the commander of a platoon of the special rapid response unit "Akhmat," which is part of the Russian National Guard forces. He is charged with cruel treatment of the civilian population and other violations of the laws and customs of war, committed in conspiracy by a group of individuals (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that in 2022, the accused, along with other units of the Russian Federation, facilitated the occupation of part of the Kherson region: the placement of equipment, conducting raids on private households, illegal detentions, the use of violence, and the appropriation of property.
In November 2022, he and his accomplices broke into the yard of a family of entrepreneurs in Kherson. Under the pretext of "searching" for the head of the family, the attackers threatened the woman and her adult son, demanding to reveal the man's whereabouts. After receiving no answer, the accused forcibly placed the son in a car, where he struck him several times with a pistol. He then continued the beating in the yard, in front of his mother.
When the homeowner returned home, the military forced him to drive with him to a location where the family's trucks and trailers were stored. On the way, he demanded $80,000 for the safety of the son. This amount was later fully transferred by the victim's wife.
For the second time, the occupiers broke into the family's yard under the pretext of a search, during which they allegedly found an automatic weapon. Threatening criminal prosecution for possession of weapons, they forced the owners to hand over the keys and documents for the equipment, as well as to sign blank forms of "purchase and sale" contracts for the property.
As a result, the accused and his accomplices illegally seized 12 trucks, 12 trailers, and a boat.
The accused is currently wanted. He will be tried in absentia.
The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kherson region with operational support from the employees of the "N" Department of the Security Service of Ukraine's Department for the Protection of National Statehood.
