A resident of Sumy, who shot at teenagers, was informed of suspicion

On December 10, 2025, the head of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, Oleksandr Panchenko, announced the suspicion of a 60-year-old resident of the city for the completed attempt on the intentional murder of six children (one minor and five adolescents), committed for hooligan motives (part 2 of Article 15/paragraph 1, paragraphs 2, 7 part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The incident occurred on December 9, 2025, around 16:40 in the yard of one of the apartment buildings. The 60-year-old man, while in a state of alcohol intoxication, fired from the window of an apartment on the 10th floor with a smoothbore hunting rifle IZH-43 at a group of teenagers standing near the entrance.
As a result of the shot, six children aged 13 to 16 (four girls and two boys) were injured.
As of 17:00 on December 10, three children remain in the hospital, and their lives are not in danger. The others are receiving outpatient treatment.
Currently, the suspect is in a temporary detention facility, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure for him is being resolved. The prosecutor's office will insist on detention without the right to bail.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Sumy region under the procedural guidance of juvenile prosecutors of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
