The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Poltava granted the request of the prosecutor and investigator and chose a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail for the police officer who ran over two underage sisters in Karlivka.

Recall that on the evening of November 30, a police officer driving his own Hyundai Tucson ran over two 17-year-old sisters who were walking along the roadside. Both children died at the scene from their injuries.

The law enforcement officer fled the scene of the accident but returned shortly after. He showed signs of alcohol intoxication.

On December 1, he was informed of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - violation of traffic safety rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in the death of several persons.

The procedural guidance in the criminal proceedings is carried out by juvenile prosecutors of the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office, and investigative actions are conducted by the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigation in Poltava.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
