In Kyiv region, the investigation has been completed regarding a man accused of driving his 13-year-old stepdaughter to suicide. The child lived for a long time in an atmosphere of humiliation, fear, and complete dependence.
Juvenile prosecutors of the Obukhiv District Prosecutor's Office have sent an indictment to the court against the man under Part 3 of Article 120 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years.
The suspicion was reported to him in October of this year. It has been established that the accused, living together with his partner and her children, had been cruelly treating his stepdaughter for several years. He systematically humiliated her, deprived her of the opportunity to study and rest, and intimidated her with threats of "sending her to a boarding school." During the cold season, he repeatedly drove the girl out into the street without warm clothing, creating dangerous conditions for her life and health.
Since the man was the breadwinner, the girl was in a material and domestic dependence on him, which increased her vulnerability.
According to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination, the minor committed suicide by hanging. The evidence obtained during the pre-trial investigation indicates a causal link between the actions of the accused and the child's death.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
