A pro-Russian political scientist who justified Russian aggression against Ukraine and spread Russian fakes will be tried in Kyiv

An indictment has been sent to court against a 38-year-old political scientist who fled to Russia after the start of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation and actively spread anti-Ukrainian narratives on the airwaves of propaganda television channels.

According to the investigation, until 2022, the accused regularly appeared on pro-Russian media, and after fleeing to Russia, became a frequent guest on the talk show "Evening with Vladimir Solovyov" and other programs, where he justified the armed aggression against Ukraine, spread fakes, and discredited the Ukrainian state. His materials were published on Russian social networks and contributed to the formation of a negative image of Ukraine on the international stage.

In addition, the man organized public actions in the territory of European Union countries calling for a reduction in support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.

The actions of the accused have been qualified under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed in a state of war) and Part 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (justification, recognition as lawful, or denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

The accused was detained after arriving in Germany from the territory of Russia through Poland. The Polish side handed him over to Ukrainian law enforcement. Currently, the man is in custody.

The pre-trial investigation, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, was conducted by investigators of the Investigative Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, with operational support from the Department for the Protection of National Statehood of the Security Service of Ukraine.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
