According to the investigation, a lecturer at a vocational college of one of the universities in Lviv implemented a scheme to obtain illegal benefits from applicants of conscription age.
For a monetary reward, he promised to influence university officials to enroll a specific applicant in this educational institution for full-time studies.
His "clients," men aged 25 and older, had the opportunity to receive a deferment from conscription. Each paid 12,000 UAH for admission.
According to preliminary information, with his assistance, about 40 men of conscription age were admitted to the educational institution.
In addition, the "services" of the suspect included support: "clients" successfully passed their assessments and exams without attending the educational institution. This way, students avoided expulsion and could count on a deferment for an extended period.
The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while receiving the entire agreed sum for admission.
Under the procedural guidance of the Halych District Prosecutor's Office of Lviv, he was informed of the suspicion of receiving illegal benefits for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion of such benefits (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
At the request of the prosecution, the suspect was chosen as a preventive measure in the form of detention with the right to bail.
Investigative actions are ongoing, and all involved persons are being identified.
The pre-trial investigation is conducted by Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv Region, with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv Region.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
