Ukraine arrested a Russian ship that was transporting grain through the occupied Crimea

In the Odesa seaport, law enforcement officers detained and arrested a Russian vessel that was used for the illegal export of Ukrainian agricultural products through the temporarily occupied Crimea. The procedural oversight in this case is carried out by the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

The investigation has established that this bulk carrier systematically entered closed Crimean ports, violating Ukrainian legislation and norms of international maritime law.

In January 2021, the ship illegally loaded over 6,900 tons of Ukrainian wheat at the Sevastopol commercial seaport and exported it to one of the African countries. The captain who was in charge of the vessel at that time was notified of suspicion in December 2025 for violating the procedure for entering and exiting the temporarily occupied territory (Part 2 of Article 332-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

To conceal the origin of the vessel and avoid international sanctions, its name was repeatedly changed and it was re-registered under shell companies from third countries.

In December 2025, the ship, flying the flag of one of the African states, again arrived at the Odesa commercial port. As a result of joint actions by Ukrainian law enforcement, it was uncovered and detained. During a search of the vessel, technical means and documentation issued by the occupation administration were found, confirming the commission of a crime.

At the request of the prosecutors of the autonomy, the court made a decision regarding its arrest. Currently, measures are being taken to transfer the ship to the management of the National Agency for the Detection and Management of Assets (ARMA).

Investigative actions are ongoing. Law enforcement officers are documenting all episodes of the crime and identifying individuals involved in the illegal export of Ukrainian grain. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Investigative Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, with comprehensive measures carried out jointly with the First Detachment of the Maritime Guard of the State Border Guard Service.
