In Ukraine, a US citizen has been detained who has been hiding from justice for sexual crimes against children for over 30 years

With the coordination of prosecutors and in close cooperation with the Cyber Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, a 66-year-old U.S. citizen who had been wanted internationally since 1992 was detained in the Kyiv region.

According to materials from American law enforcement agencies, the detainee, while working as a director of a kindergarten in Pima County, Arizona, committed a series of sexual offenses against four children aged 4 to 9 years between 1984 and 1991. Before the sentencing by the Superior Court of Arizona, he left the territory of the United States and evaded responsibility by using forged documents in the name of a Mexican citizen.

The location of the wanted individual was established through the use of digital technologies, particularly the analysis of data from open sources. In Ukraine, the man lived under fictitious personal data in a private house in the Kyiv region.

After identifying the individual, law enforcement conducted a search and detained him at his actual place of residence.

Currently, prosecutors are preparing a motion to the court for the application of temporary detention in order to further address the issue of his extradition. According to information provided by the competent authorities of the United States, the detainee is charged with 15 counts of criminal legislation.

The Office of the Attorney General will continue to ensure the proper implementation of international legal cooperation in the field of criminal justice, particularly regarding the extradition of individuals who have committed serious crimes, including those that infringe upon the sexual freedom and inviolability of children.
