Prosecutors of the Uzhhorod District Prosecutor's Office have filed an indictment against a former official of the Uzhhorod City Council and a private entrepreneur – appraiser to trial, who sold the land of a former factory on the outskirts of Uzhhorod for UAH 16.7 million, compared to its market value of UAH 86.3 million. 

According to the materials of the pre-trial investigation, the ex-director of the Department of the Uzhhorod City Council, superficially and dishonestly performing his duties, agreed and signed eight contracts for the purchase and sale of land plots, at a price 5 times lower than the market price. The value of the land put up for sale was formed on the basis of an underestimated expert assessment. 

According to the conducted examinations, the damage caused to the territorial community of Uzhhorod amounts to almost UAH 70 million. 

Upon the motion of the prosecutor, a city council official was remanded in custody with the alternative of posting more than UAH 1.2 million in bail. Suspects charged: 

- the former head of the department of the Uzhhorod City Council - official negligence, which caused serious consequences (part 2 of Art 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). 

- entrepreneur-assessor – compilation and issuance by the appraiser of knowingly forged official documents (part 3 of Art. 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Uzhhorod Regional Police Department of the Main Department of the National Police in Zakarpattia region, with operational support of the Regional Department of Security Service of Ukraine.

Note: according to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
