The Supreme Court confirmed the verdict: 13 years in prison for the rape of a minor boy

The Supreme Court upheld the sentence of a resident of Lviv, who was found guilty of raping a minor. The man will serve a total of 13 years in prison.

Prosecutors from the Ivano-Frankivsk District Prosecutor's Office of Lviv, the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, and the Office of the Prosecutor General proved the legality and validity of the sentence in courts of all instances.

The crime occurred in June 2020 in the Levandivka neighborhood of Lviv. At that time, this incident shocked not only the residents of Lviv region.

At lunchtime, an 18-year-old man came to a playground near residential buildings where children were present. Under a fabricated pretext, supposedly for repairing a scooter, he asked them for help and promised sweets.

An eleven-year-old boy followed the stranger. The man led the child away from the playground to a deserted place nearby, where he took advantage of the child's helpless state and committed a particularly serious crime. After that, the perpetrator fled.

The child immediately reported the incident to his parents. That same day, law enforcement officers detained the man.

The first-instance court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 13 years of imprisonment. The appellate court  upheld the sentence. The defense filed a cassation appeal, but the Supreme Court rejected it, fully agreeing with the prosecutors' position.

Thus, the sentence has entered into legal force, and the guilty party will face real responsibility for the crime committed.

“Crimes against children are a boundary beyond which the state must act strictly and uncompromisingly. In this case, the prosecutors consistently defended the sentence in all judicial instances. Protecting the rights of the child is an unconditional priority for the prosecution authorities,” emphasized the prosecutor in the case.
