A serviceman sentenced to 15 years in prison for moving to the side of the enemy

Under the public prosecution of the prosecutors of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector of the Central region, a serviceman has been found guilty of treason (part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He has been sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all his property.

In October 2024, while on the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the serviceman voluntarily joined the armed forces of the aggressor state, took a military oath, and was appointed as a shooter. He was subsequently transferred to a unit stationed near a settlement in the Luhansk region, where he received weapons and participated in combat operations against the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During one of the battles in December 2024, the convicted individual carried out an armed assault as part of a unit of the Russian Armed Forces against Ukrainian servicemen.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv and the Kyiv region with operational support from the Department of Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine.
