Under the procedural guidance of the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a serviceman of the Russian Armed Forces has been notified of suspicion for violating the laws and customs of war, committed by a group of individuals (Part 1 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, on March 25, 2022, during the occupation of the village of Politrudnya in the Chernihiv district by the armed forces of the aggressor state, Russian soldiers stopped a vehicle with five local civilians at a checkpoint and detained the driver.
The suspect forced a civilian resident to walk to a trench, where he began to threaten him with death, trying to obtain information about the locations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units. The occupier fired several shots from automatic weapons close to the victim, simulating his execution.
Subsequently, Russian servicemen, baselessly suspecting the victim of collaborating with the Ukrainian defense forces, tortured him for several hours, inflicting numerous blows to the head, torso, and limbs.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Chernihiv region.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
