Prosecutors of the Dnipro Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Field of Defense of the Eastern region, in interaction with investigators and operatives of the Samar District Police Department of the State Police in the Dnipropetrovsk region, detained a group of persons on suspicion for committing crimes provided for in part 2 of Art. 146, part 2 of Art. 289, part 4 of Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, in July 2025, the company commander of one of the military units and a former serviceman, while in the village of Gubynikha, Dnipropetrovsk region, illegally deprived a local farmer of his liberty. They used physical violence towards the man, handcuffed him, and drove him in his car to a neighboring region. There, they demanded and received USD 70,000 from the victim for his release.

The perpetrators were detained pursuant to the procedure of Art. 208, 615 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

During authorized and urgent searches, mobile phones, starter packs, clothes, a portion of the funds, as well as a car purchased with the victim's money were seized from the detainees.

Pre-trial investigation under the procedural supervision of the Dnipro Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Field of Defense of the Eastern region is carried out by investigators of the Samar Regional Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk region. 

According to Article 62 of the Constitution, a person shall be presumed innocent of a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt has been proved legally and established by a court verdict.
