A former foreign military instructor who worked for the aggressor state was exposed and detained

The Security Service of Ukraine has exposed and detained a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, who is suspected of collaborating with Russian special services.

Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, on October 27, 2025, the foreign national was informed of the suspicion under Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – for the unauthorized dissemination of information about the Defense Forces in conditions of martial law.

According to the investigation, the Briton arrived in Ukraine in January 2024. Initially, he conducted instructional sessions for military personnel in Mykolaiv, and later worked in one of the border units.

At the end of September 2024, after ceasing his activities as an instructor, he moved to Odesa, where he established contact with a representative of the Russian special service and agreed to provide military information for money.

In particular, there is evidence of him transmitting, in May 2025, the coordinates of the locations of Ukrainian units, photographs of the training area, and information regarding military personnel with the possibility of their identification.

Furthermore, an analysis of his correspondence confirmed that he was carrying out other tasks in favor of the Russian special service.

He was gathering information about facilities in Odesa, negotiating the possibility of using explosive devices, and attempting to establish access to the command of military units. For one of these tasks, he received 6,000 US dollars.

Today, at the request of the prosecutor of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention without bail.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine with operational support from counterintelligence units.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and confirmed by a guilty verdict of the court.
