Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, the Security Service has detained an agent in Kyiv who was working for Belarusian special services. He was spying on the locations of the Defense Forces at the request of the Belarusian border committee and was also transmitting the coordinates of critical infrastructure objects in the city of Kyiv.
It has been documented that the agent initially recorded the "perimeter" of one of the capital's thermal power plants with his phone camera from the window of his apartment.
He then conducted reconnaissance near this facility to determine its technical condition after recent enemy shelling of the capital.
The collected information was sent to Telegram channel chats administered by Belarusian special service agents.
While moving around the city, including using public transport, he photographed the locations of Ukrainian troops and sent the gathered data via a chatbot of the Belarusian border committee.
In case of successful completion of his tasks, he was counting on further "evacuation" beyond the borders of Ukraine. For this purpose, he prepared a tactical backpack with essential items, which he planned to use in case of illegal border crossing.
However, employees of the Security Service of Ukraine uncovered his illegal intentions in advance and detained him at his residence in Kyiv. At the same time, a set of measures was taken to secure the locations of potential "targets".
According to the investigation, the detainee is a local laborer who was recruited by Belarusian special service agents through Telegram channels, where he published pro-Kremlin comments.
Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, he has been notified of suspicion of treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He is currently in custody, facing life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Main Directorate of the Security Service with operational support from the Department for the Protection of National Statehood.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established.
