Russian soldiers who committed sexual and physical violence against defenseless women in the occupation were found

Prosecutors of the Office of the Attorney General have documented crimes of sexual violence and cruel treatment committed by Russian military personnel during the temporary occupation of Ukrainian territories. One Russian soldier has been notified of suspicion, while an indictment against another has been sent to court. The actions of both have been qualified under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In the first case, the investigation has been completed regarding a serviceman of the 202nd rifle regiment of the Russian Federation, who during the temporary occupation of Kharkiv region raped a local 19-year-old girl.
According to the investigation, at the end of April 2022, Russian units entered one of the settlements in the region and set up checkpoints. At one of them, they stopped the girl, after which they took her to the district police station and locked her in a cell.
Taking advantage of her vulnerable position, one of the soldiers took her to another room and raped her. The indictment has been sent to court. The investigation was conducted by the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
In the second criminal case, prosecutors of the Office of the Attorney General notified a serviceman of the medical company of the 37th separate guards motorized rifle Donetsk Budapest brigade of the 36th army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces of suspicion (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
In March 2022, during the temporary occupation of part of the Kyiv region, a soldier, in a state of intoxication, entered the home of a 62-year-old local woman, began to harass her, and demanded that she go with him to the bedroom. Upon hearing her refusal, he forcibly dragged the victim to the stairs and kicked her in the stomach. Further violence was stopped by another serviceman of the Russian Armed Forces.
Pre-trial investigation in this episode is ongoing and is being conducted by the Main Investigative Department of the State Bureau of Investigations.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
