Under the public prosecution of the prosecutors of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor's Office, a local resident was found guilty of treason committed in a state of war and preparing to commit a terrorist act (Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 258, Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Prosecutors proved in court that in October 2023, the man established contact with representatives of the aggressor state's special services through an acquaintance who was in the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region.
Carrying out the curator's tasks, the convicted individual collected and transmitted information regarding the locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, military equipment, and coordinates of critical infrastructure objects to prepare for and carry out airstrikes by the enemy, receiving a reward ranging from 500 UAH to 2,000 UAH for this.
In early February 2024, the man received a task from Russian curators, for which he was to receive 5,000 US dollars. He was provided with detailed instructions for committing a terrorist act in a crowded place – at one of the cargo departments of the postal operator in Zaporizhzhia.
It is worth noting that in March 2024, law enforcement officers uncovered the convicted individual in the process of making an explosive device with remote control and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
During searches of the convicted individual's residence and vehicle, computer equipment, communication devices with evidence of illegal activities, as well as items and components for creating a homemade explosive device were seized.
By the court's verdict, the man was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all property.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia region.
