A soldier of the Russian Federation who injured a civilian in Sumy Oblast was sentenced in absentia to 11 years in prison due to a public accusation by the prosecutor's office

Under the public prosecution of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, a 42-year-old serviceman of the 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Battalion of the 119th Rifle Regiment of the Russian army has been found guilty of violating the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 28/Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

By the court's verdict on October 21, 2025, he was sentenced in absentia to 11 years of imprisonment.

The prosecutor proved in court that the man, holding the position of a shooter, participated in the invasion of Ukraine as part of the Russian military. On March 18, 2022, the occupiers were on the territory of the village of Maly Vystorop in the Sumy region and treated the civilian population brutally.

In particular, the accused, during a conversation with a civilian man, first threatened him and then fired in his direction. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

Currently, the accused is wanted.

The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Sumy region.
