Prosecutors of the Office of the Attorney General, together with employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, detained a citizen of the Republic of Belarus in Kyiv, who was recruited by representatives of the State Security Committee (hereinafter - KGB) and was engaged in the collection of intelligence information.

According to the pre-trial investigation, in 2025, the suspect established contact with representatives of the KGB of the Republic of Belarus. Operational officers of the foreign special service involved her in confidential cooperation.

For a monetary reward, she agreed to collect and transmit information to the KGB representatives about the activities of certain units of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the operational situation, internal processes within the structure, as well as information about individuals involved in operational work and the agent apparatus.

Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors, she was informed of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Article 114 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (espionage). 

A preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail has been chosen for the suspect.

Currently, operational-search measures and investigative actions are ongoing, aimed at establishing and documenting the activities of the agent network that operated on the territory of Ukraine.

For committing the specified crime, the suspect faces a penalty of imprisonment for up to 15 years with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Main Investigative Directorate of the SBU with operational support from the Department for the Protection of National Statehood of the SBU and assistance from the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
