Cruel treatment of captured Ukrainian servicemen by participants of armed formations of the Russian Federation.

The Office of the Prosecutor General, within the framework of a criminal proceeding regarding the facts of large-scale and systematic violations of the laws and customs of war committed on the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions by participants of the terrorist organizations "DPR" and "LPR," has established that Ukrainian servicemen, fighters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the National Guard, who were captured by the units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the area of the city of Ilovaisk, subsequently faced cruel treatment and other war crimes, including:

extrajudicial executions – violations of Article 13 of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War of 12.08.1949, Article 75 of the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions of 12.08.1949, concerning the protection of victims of international armed conflicts (Protocol I) of 08.06.1977.
As an example – the murder of captured servicemen of the 40th Territorial Defense Battalion "Kryvbas" in the area of the city of Ilovaisk;

torture and cruel treatment, intentional infliction of severe suffering or serious bodily injury or harm to health – violations of Articles 13, 15, 17 of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War of 12.08.1949, Articles 11, 75 of the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions of 12.08.1949, concerning the protection of victims of international armed conflicts (Protocol I) of 08.06.1977.
As an example – inflicting beatings on captured servicemen in the area of the city of Ilovaisk, applying electric shocks to them, firing traumatic weapons, simulating executions, etc.;

attacks on human dignity, in particular degrading or humiliating treatment – Article 75 of the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions of 12.08.1949, concerning the protection of victims of international armed conflicts (Protocol I) of 08.06.1977.
As an example – forcing captured servicemen in the area of the city of Ilovaisk to participate in the so-called "prisoner parade" in
the city of Donetsk;

use for performing dangerous and forced labor – violations of Article 52 of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War of 12.08.1949 and others. As an example – forcing captured servicemen in the area of the city of Ilovaisk to collect ammunition debris and to clear the territory of mines.

As a result of the pre-trial investigation, 15 individuals have been notified of suspicion, including 1 citizen of the Russian Federation, and 1 person has been convicted. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
