Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Podil District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv, the director of a private company has been notified of suspicion of embezzling funds from a charitable organization that financed the construction of modular houses for those affected by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in the village of Moschun, Kyiv region.
The houses were intended to serve as temporary housing for people who had been deprived of shelter due to Russian shelling. The charitable organization financed the construction of foundations, plumbing, and septic systems; however, according to the investigation, the contractor did not complete part of the work and inflated the cost of the work.
It has been established that the director of the company included knowingly false information in the acts of completed work regarding the volumes and costs of construction. As a result of such actions, the charitable organization suffered damages of nearly 473 thousand hryvnias, according to expert assessments.
After the funds were received in the company's account, the suspect transferred 420 thousand hryvnias to his personal account, presenting it as a "return of financial assistance," which, according to the investigation, is a mechanism for laundering the embezzled funds.
Prosecutors have notified the individual of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 191, Part 1 of Article 366, and Part 1 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – misappropriation of property, official forgery, and legalization of income obtained by criminal means.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Podil Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv, with operational support from the Department for the Protection of National Statehood of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
